RV Decal Restoration VS. Replacement | How to Choose the Right Option

RV Decal Restoration VS. Replacement | How to Choose the Right Option

The decals on your RV are an extension of you, your brand, and everything you want to put out into the world, but weather and everyday wear and tear can still get to even the best products.

Over time, RV decals can fade, crack, peel, or simply stop reflecting the look you want. When that happens, you have a decision to make: can the existing decals be restored, or is it time to replace them altogether?

Both options can refresh the appearance of your RV, but they aren’t interchangeable. The right choice depends on the condition of the existing graphics, the surface underneath them, your budget, and most importantly, what you want your RV to look like when the work is done.

At Dream Image Signs, we believe your RV shouldn’t just look maintained. It should look intentional, daring and memorable, always. Here’s how to determine which option will get you there.

Why RV Decals Deteriorate

Our RV decals are built specifically for the open road. They’re strong, durable, and designed to withstand significant outdoor exposure. But just like anything exposed to Alberta’s elements, time and weather can eventually take their toll.

Sunlight exposure and temperature swings, combined with moisture, dirt, road debris and years spent experiencing life in the outdoors, can all contribute to the gradual breakdown of decals. Even with the most premium materials and professional installation, no decal looks brand new forever.

Over time, outdoor exposure can lead to some common symptoms, including:

  • Fading or discolouration
  • Cracking or splitting
  • Peeling or lifting edges
  • Bubbling
  • Shrinking vinyl
  • Brittle or dried-out graphics
  • Adhesive residue around deteriorating decals

Common Signs Your RV Decals Need Attention

A little fading or a spot of discolouration here and there doesn’t mean you have to start over again. However, there is a time when aging graphics start to detract from the look of your RV and the message you want to convey.

Cosmetic fading or minor wear may leave room for restoration or targeted improvements. Extensive cracking, peeling, shrinkage, or adhesive failure, however, usually points toward replacement.

There’s also another reason to make a change: you simply want something better.

Your RV may be in excellent condition, but the graphics feel dated or no longer represent the new direction you want to go in. Maybe your design no longer fits your style, or maybe you’ve had the same look for years, and you’re ready to create something that aligns with this “new you”. You don’t have to wait for a decal to fall apart before deciding you’ve outgrown it. We’re always ready with new and innovative designs to represent your growth and direction, no matter where they take you.

Can RV Decals Be Restored?

Sometimes, yes. But there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. If the existing vinyl is still in good condition and the damage is limited, there may be opportunities to preserve the design or address specific areas. If the decal is severely faded, cracked, brittle, or peeling, however, restoration isn’t likely to deliver the WOW factor you’re looking for.

If the vinyl itself is still structurally sound and the issue is relatively minor, then we can most definitely offer careful maintenance and improve your design’s appearance to restore your decal back to its stunning self. This includes working on and fixing small sections of damaged graphics if the rest of the decal is still in optimal shape.

However, severely faded, cracked, brittle, or peeling vinyl can’t easily be brought back to its original condition. Once the material itself has deteriorated, replacement is often the better long-term solution.

That’s why the first step should be evaluating what you’re actually working with.

We can assess the condition of the graphics, adhesive, surrounding surface, and overall design before recommending to you whether it makes sense to preserve what you have or move forward with something brand new.

How the Replacement Process Works

If you’re doing a full replacement, it’s a lot more than just peeling off a sticker and adding another. Our deluxe decals consist of multiple layers, including a backing paper, the vinyl design, and a transfer tape. This structure allows for intricate designs and facilitates application onto various surfaces. Their robust construction ensures longevity, even in challenging weather conditions.

Professionally installed wraps can generally be removed safely from sound, factory-finished paint. However, aftermarket paint, failing clearcoat, rust, bodywork, or pre-existing damage may increase the risk of paint lifting during removal. But don’t worry, our expert team gets the job done flawlessly. Once the decal is removed, we’ll properly clean the area to ready the RV for new application, and then comes the fun part: laying down the new decal. With a full replacement, you get to reimagine the look of your RV, change any colours, graphics, or images to create something even more visually stunning.

Instead of looking at replacement as simply fixing what’s worn out, think of it as an opportunity to redefine the vehicle. The RV already takes you where you want to go. Its appearance should be worthy of the destination.

RV Decal Replacement VS. Full RV Wrap

Sometimes replacing individual decals is exactly what an RV needs. Other times, removing the old graphics reveals an opportunity to go much bigger.

A full RV or motorhome wrap allows you to transform much more of the vehicle’s exterior and create a cohesive design rather than working within the boundaries of the original decals. The paint protection offered with a full wrap is significant and provides meaningful protection from scratches, UV exposure, fading, and general surface wear.

RV Decal Replacement Full RV Wrap
Best for Updating specific graphics or recreating an existing look A major visual transformation
Design freedom Focused on selected areas of the RV Extensive customization across the exterior
Coverage Individual graphics and designated sections Covers much larger portions of the vehicle
Ideal when The RV itself looks good but the decals are aging You want to dramatically update or personalize the RV
Overall result Refreshed and polished with a lifespan of 5 to 7 years Bold, cohesive and completely reimagined with a lifespan of 5 to 7 years

If you love the overall look of your RV and simply want to rewind the clock and bring those aging graphics back to their former glory, decal replacement may be the answer you’ve been waiting for. But if you’re ready to completely rethink the whole exterior, a full wrap gives you the freedom to go bigger, bolder, and far more custom.

Applying RV decals or wraps isn’t simply about putting graphics on a vehicle. It’s about understanding the grand vision behind it, choosing the right materials, getting every detail right, and creating a finished product that commands attention wherever the road takes you.

It’s also important to note that more coverage does not automatically mean more effective advertising. A well-designed decal package can sometimes outperform a busy full wrap. Readability, contrast, message hierarchy, and professional installation are just as important as the amount of coverage.

Essential Equipment Decals for Construction and Heavy Machinery

Essential Equipment Decals for Construction and Heavy Machinery

Your heavy equipment already commands attention, but what are you doing with it? The truth is that every skid steer, generator, concrete mixer, or piece of machinery on your jobsite is a highly visible extension of your business. Leaving that space untouched means missing an opportunity to put your name, brand and vision in front of the people who matter.

But essential equipment decals aren’t only about looking good. They also communicate important safety information, warnings, operating instructions, and other messaging that needs to be seen.

That’s where Dream Image Signs comes in. Helping businesses stand out is what we do. With custom essential equipment decals and wraps built for demanding environments, we help turn hardworking machinery into another hardworking representation of your business.

What Types of Heavy Equipment Can Be Decaled?

Since 2005, we’ve helped businesses make their mark with customized decals and wraps for heavy-duty equipment of all shapes and sizes, including:

  • Skid steers
  • Generators
  • Concrete Mixers
  • Concrete Mixers

That’s only the beginning. Heavy-duty equipment gives your business a serious amount of real estate. With the right design, materials and installation, that space can put your company front and centre while ensuring essential safety information remains visible.

But wrapping this type of equipment and machinery isn’t for an average company. It requires not only the toughest, highest quality of vinyl but also the proper installation.

Choose the Right Vinyl for the Job

Not all equipment works in the same conditions, which means that not every vinyl is right for the job. That’s why the first step we take is looking at the equipment itself, where it operates and what conditions it functions in to get a better understanding on how to provide you with the best possible product.

For example, a piece of machinery or equipment that spends a lot of time outdoors in harsh temperatures, dealing with the everyday dirt, dust, mud and debris of a worksite, will likely need different and more durable vinyl than a machine that is operating primarily indoors. That’s because when vinyls are exposed to temperature fluctuations, they can expand and contract and in turn, cause lifting at the edges. UV rays from the sun can also dry out vinyl and cause cracking.

The surface matters, too. Is it flat or curved? Does the machinery have complex contours that require the vinyl to flex and stretch? These details all influence the material we select and how it needs to be installed to achieve a professional, long-lasting result.

Importance of Essential Equipment Decals

The best equipment decals don’t just do one job for you; they can also strengthen your company’s presence, communicate essential information, and make your equipment instantly recognizable.

Essential equipment decals can come in many different shapes, sizes and visuals, but the thing that’s consistent is that they can do several things at once, such as:

  • Brand recognition: Logos, your company name, an identifying image, colours or other visual elements that make you instantly recognizable.
  • Equipment warning and safety labels: Hazard warnings, machinery warnings, operating instructions, and other important safety messaging.
  • Identification and operational decals: Unit numbers, equipment identification, instructional markings, or other information that helps teams identify and manage machinery.

These types of decals can help make critical safety information easier to see, enhance visibility of equipment and machinery, and reinforce your company’s presence, all without compromising your intended visual impact.

Why Quality Matters for Essential Equipment Decals

You’ve worked incredibly hard on your business, and you deserve to have stellar representation of it on all fronts, including on your heavy-duty equipment and machinery. But heavy-duty machinery isn’t the place for an average decal. These graphics face dirt, debris, UV exposure, temperature swings, demanding surfaces, and the realities of an active jobsite. That means the materials, design and installation all matter.

We believe that your equipment deserves the best: the best materials, the best workmanship, the best visuals, and a finished product that represents your business exactly the way it should. That’s where Dream Image Signs delivers.

Fleet Vehicle Decals VS. Full Wraps | How Much Attention Can Your Business Command?

Fleet Vehicle Decals VS. Full Wraps | How Much Attention Can Your Business Command

Every day, your vehicles travel through neighbourhoods, industrial parks, busy intersections, job sites and all over the city. They stop at red lights. They sit in parking lots. They pull into customer driveways. The real question isn’t whether people are seeing your vehicles. It’s whether they’re remembering your business.

When it comes down to deciding between  Fleet Vehicle Decals VS. Full Wraps, both options can really spruce up your brand, build recognition, create lasting impact and help you really stand out from the competition. The difference here, though, lies in how boldly you want to show up, how much visibility you’re after, and what makes sense for your unique business goals.

At Dream Image Signs, we’ve been helping Calgary businesses transform their fleets into mobile marketing machines since 2005! Whether you’re branding a single service van or an entire fleet of work trucks, we’re here to help you choose the solution that delivers the best possible impact.

First of All…What Are Fleet Vehicle Decals?

Fleet vehicle decals are strategically placed vinyl graphics that showcase key elements of your company’s brand, such as:

  • Company logos
  • Phone numbers
  • Website addresses
  • Service information
  • Slogans etc.

Rather than covering the entire vehicle with branded art, decals focus on high-visibility areas such as doors, tailgates, side panels, and rear windows. Think of decals as laser-focused branding. They’re clean, professional, and highly effective when designed properly to really pack a punch.

For many businesses, these types of decals provide everything needed to establish real credibility and local brand recognition without covering the entire vehicle.

What Are Full Vehicle Wraps?

A full vehicle wrap transforms your vehicle into a rolling billboard! Premium vinyl covers most or all visible surfaces, allowing for:

  • Full-colour branding
  • Custom graphics
  • Large-scale imagery
  • Marketing messages
  • Complete visual transformation

A full wrap doesn’t simply display your logo or company phone number. It tells your story.

Whether you’re running a fleet of service trucks, delivery vans, or sales vehicles, a professionally designed wrap creates a powerful visual presence that’s difficult to ignore when you’re rolling down the highway.

Cost Comparison for Fleet Branding

Now, let’s talk strategy! Not every business needs the biggest or flashiest branding solution that’s available. Most of the time, the best investment is always the one that aligns best with your company and your goals.

Fleet Vehicle Decals

Decals are often the preferred option for:

  • Startups
  • Small businesses
  • Budget-conscious organizations
  • Fleets requiring simple identification

They provide excellent visibility at a lower cost, making them ideal for businesses looking to maximize value while maintaining a professional appearance.

Full Vehicle Wraps

Full wraps require a larger investment but deliver unmatched visibility. For businesses focused on growth, brand awareness, and market dominance, wraps often deliver greater long-term value due to the sheer number of impressions they generate each day.

One vehicle. Thousands of views. Every single week.

Branding Impact and Visibility

Visibility creates opportunity! The more often people see your brand, the more familiar you become. The more familiar you become, the more trust you build. And trust is what really drives business.

Decals Create Recognition

Fleet decals make it easy for customers to identify your team while reinforcing your brand in the communities you serve. They’re professional, clean, and effective.

Wraps Create Attention

Full wraps stop people in their tracks. They transform ordinary-looking vehicles into unforgettable brand experiences. If your goal is to dominate attention on Calgary roads, full wraps deliver that “wow factor” few other marketing tools can match.

Durability and Maintenance Considerations

Dream Image Signs is owned by a 3M Preferred Installer, ensuring every project is overseen by someone with professional installation training and hands-on industry experience. From selecting premium materials to following proper preparation and installation procedures, this experienced oversight helps our team work efficiently, avoid unnecessary installation issues, and deliver consistent, high-quality results.

Fleet Decals

  • Durable and weather-resistant
  • Easier to replace individual sections
  • Lower maintenance requirements
  • Ideal for businesses making frequent branding updates

Full Wraps

  • Protect underlying paint
  • Resist UV damage
  • Long-lasting appearance
  • Exceptional durability when professionally installed

With proper care, full wraps can continue generating impressions for years to come.

Partial Wraps | The Best of Both Worlds?

Sometimes the answer isn’t decals or full wraps. Sometimes it’s a little bit of both!

Partial wraps combine much more extensive graphic coverage with strategic branding elements to create a high-impact appearance at a lower cost than a complete wrap. For many Calgary businesses, partial wraps offer the perfect balance between affordability and real visibility.

Temporary VS. Long-Term Branding Goals

Before you choose, it’s important to ask yourself: Where is your business headed?

Decals May Be Best If:

  • You expect branding changes soon
  • You’re testing a new market
  • You’re working with a tighter budget
  • You need straightforward vehicle identification

Full Wraps May Be Best If:

  • You have established branding
  • You want real maximum exposure
  • You’re building some long-term brand recognition
  • You want your vehicles to become mobile billboards

Small Fleets VS. Large Fleets

The size of your fleet also matters!

Small Fleets

Smaller fleets often benefit from full wraps because each vehicle carries a greater share of the marketing workload. Every vehicle becomes a major brand ambassador!

Large Fleets

Large fleets often combine decals, partial wraps, and full wraps depending on vehicle types, budgets, and marketing objectives.

At Dream Image Signs, consistency is everything. Whether we’re wrapping one vehicle or fifty, we carefully document colours, placement, measurements, and installation details to ensure every vehicle reflects your brand consistently from one unit to the next. That’s how professional fleet branding should work.

The ROI of Branded Fleet Vehicles

Many marketing campaigns disappear the moment the budget runs out. Fleet branding doesn’t.

Your vehicles are already driving. They’re already parked in public spaces. They’re already interacting with your community. Why not put them to work? Branded fleet vehicles continue generating impressions day after day, month after month, year after year.

And that’s what makes fleet branding one of the most effective marketing investments available.

Why Calgary Businesses Trust Dream Image Signs

Fleet branding isn’t simply about applying graphics.

  • It’s about detailed planning.
  • It’s about consistency.
  • It’s about keeping your vehicles on the road and your business moving forward.

At Dream Image Signs, we understand the realities of managing a fleet. That’s why we coordinate schedules, maintain detailed records, and remain flexible throughout the wrapping or decal process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are vehicle wraps better than decals?
Not necessarily. Full wraps provide greater visibility and branding impact, while decals offer a more affordable solution. The best choice, then, really depends on your goals, budget, and branding strategy.

How long do fleet wraps last?
Premium fleet wraps typically last between 5 and 7 years when properly maintained.

Which option is more affordable for multiple vehicles?
Fleet decals generally have a lower upfront cost, making them more affordable for larger fleets. However, wraps often deliver greater long-term branding value.

Can wraps be removed without damaging paint?
Professionally installed wraps can generally be removed safely from sound, factory-finished paint. However, aftermarket paint, failing clearcoat, rust, bodywork, or pre-existing damage may increase the risk of paint lifting during removal.

Are fleet graphics good for local marketing?
Absolutely! Fleet graphics build local recognition, increase visibility, and help businesses stay top-of-mind throughout the communities they serve. However, more coverage does not automatically mean more effective advertising. A well-designed decal package can sometimes outperform a busy full wrap. Readability, contrast, message hierarchy, and professional installation are just as important as the amount of coverage.

One Fleet. One Brand. One Powerful First Impression. | How to Plan a Fleet Wrap Rollout Across Multiple Work Trucks & Vans

How to Plan a Fleet Wrap Rollout Across Multiple Work Trucks & Vans

Some businesses have work trucks. Industry leaders have rolling brand ambassadors. Every morning, your fleet heads out across the city. Through busy intersections. Down residential streets. Into industrial parks. Across job sites. Past thousands of potential customers who may never visit your website, scroll past your social media ads, or see your latest marketing campaign.

They’ll always see your trucks. But the question is…will they remember them?

That’s the big difference between transportation and transformation.

Professionally designed commercial vehicle graphics don’t simply make your fleet look good; they build recognition, inspire action, and tell your story long before your team ever shakes a customer’s hand.

When you’re planning a wrap rollout across your company trucks and vans, success isn’t measured by how quickly the graphics go on. It’s measured by how consistently your brand shows up, mile after mile, vehicle after vehicle, year after year.

At Dream Image Signs, we don’t just wrap fleets, we help businesses become impossible to ignore.

Why Fleet Branding Matters & Why It Should Matter to You

The world’s biggest brands didn’t become unforgettable because customers saw them only once. They became unforgettable because people saw them everywhere, all the time, consistently. That’s exactly what a professionally branded fleet can do! Every service call becomes instant advertising. Every stoplight becomes a potential client or customer opportunity. Every driveway becomes another chance to build trust.

When this happens, over time, people tend to stop asking, “Who are they?” Instead, they say: “I see those trucks everywhere.” That’s exactly the kind of recognition you want! It’s strategy, it’s consistency, and it’s one of the smartest investments a business can make for their vehicles (aside from regular oil changes of course).

Before You Start | Planning Your Fleet Wrap Rollout

A successful fleet branding project begins long before the first piece of vinyl is installed.

Just like any great construction project, preparation determines the overall outcome.

Define Your Branding Goals

So, ask yourself: What do you want your fleet to accomplish?

Are you looking to:

  • Increase local brand recognition?
  • Create a more professional appearance overall?
  • Generate more phone calls or leads?
  • Support business growth and look mighty?
  • Build consistency across your entire organization?

Knowing your vision or ideal destination makes it much easier to build the roadmap.

Identify Every Vehicle in Your Fleet

No two fleets are exactly alike. You may have:

  • Service vans
  • Pickup trucks
  • Cube vans
  • Flat decks
  • Cargo vans
  • SUVs
  • Specialty equipment

So, every vehicle has different dimensions, curves, doors, windows, and body styles that need to be considered during the design process. That’s why accurate measurements matter.

At Dream Image Signs, we carefully measure every vehicle type and document those specifications, ensuring every future installation maintains the same professional appearance.

Establish Budget Expectations

One of the biggest misconceptions about fleet wrap branding is that everything needs to happen all at once, right here, right now. But, it doesn’t. Many successful businesses choose to brand their fleets in carefully planned phases to ensure a proper number of their company vehicles remain available, and allow them to spread costs over time while still building a recognizable brand presence piece by piece.

Whether you’re wrapping three vehicles or thirty, we’ll help develop a rollout strategy that works with your goals, not against them.

Determine Your Project Timeline

Timing matters! If your busiest season is just around the corner, don’t wait until every truck is booked solid. Planning your fleet vehicle wraps before peak season allows installations to happen without creating unnecessary stress or operational delays. A little planning today can save countless headaches tomorrow.

Prioritize Your Highest-Visibility Vehicles

Not every vehicle generates the same number of impressions, so it’s important to start with the vehicles that spend the most time on the road.

Vehicles like:

  • Daily service vans
  • Delivery trucks
  • Sales vehicles
  • Estimator vehicles
  • Frequently travelled fleet units

These vehicles that are on the road daily, become the foundation of your brand presence while additional vehicles can be added over time.

Create a Standardized Fleet Design

Here’s where average fleets separate themselves from unforgettable ones. If your company has ten trucks…you shouldn’t have ten different versions of your logo. You should make sure you have one unmistakable logo. Consistency isn’t something we hope for. It’s something we engineer.

  • Every logo placement.
  • Every colour value.
  • Every measurement.
  • Every printer setting.
  • Every installation photo.

Documented. Organized. Repeatable.

That means when you bring in another truck six months, or even six years, from now, your newest vehicle will look just as polished as your first.

No guessing, no “close enough,” just seamless wraps and decals that build branding recognition with every kilometre travelled.

Choosing Between Full Wraps & Fleet Decals

Not every business needs the same solution.

Full Wraps

Full fleet vehicle wraps are perfect for businesses that really want to create maximum mobile impact as they transform your vehicles into moving billboards that command attention from every angle.

Wraps are ideal for:

  • Growing businesses
  • Contractors
  • Trades
  • Delivery companies
  • Businesses looking to dominate their local market

Fleet Decals

Sometimes simplicity is the winner! Strategically placed commercial vehicle graphics featuring your logo, impressive colours, contact information, and your company slogan can create a clean, professional appearance while remaining budget-friendly.

More coverage does not automatically mean more effective advertising. A well-designed decal package can sometimes outperform a busy full wrap. Readability, contrast, message hierarchy, and professional installation are just as important as the amount of coverage.

Scheduling Installations Without Disrupting Your Operations

Here’s something we understand better than most….parked trucks just simply don’t make money. Your vehicles exist to serve customers, not sit in a shop waiting for graphics for weeks on end. That’s why flexibility is one of the most valuable parts of our process at Dream Image Signs.

Need evening vehicle swaps? We can make it happen!

Need a weekend installation? We’ve done plenty of those!

Need us to work around employee vacations or changing schedules? We got your back!

Our goal is really quite simple: Keep your fleet moving while your brand keeps growing.

Common Challenges During Fleet Wrap Rollouts

Every fleet rollout comes with a lot of moving parts.

  • Different vehicle models.
  • Unexpected scheduling changes.
  • Mechanical repairs.
  • New vehicles arriving mid-project.
  • Changing priorities.

The difference isn’t whether challenges happen, the difference is having a partner who knows how to adapt when needed. At Dream Image Signs, we’ve built our process around flexibility because we know business rarely follows a perfect schedule. When something changes, we adjust right alongside you.

What Information Should Be Included on Fleet Vehicles?

Remember…drivers only have a few seconds to absorb your message. So, keep it simple.

Your fleet should clearly communicate:

  • Company logo
  • Business name
  • Primary service(s)
  • Website info
  • Phone number or QR code
  • Brand colours
  • Supporting imagery (when appropriate)

A clean, dynamic and confident design almost always outperforms clutter. The goal isn’t to tell your entire story. The goal is to make people curious enough to remember your name.

Ready to Build a Fleet That Really Makes Its Mark?

Your competitors have vehicles. You have an opportunity. An opportunity to become recognizable. To build trust before you arrive. To create thousands of lasting impressions every single week. To transform ordinary work trucks into extraordinary brand ambassadors.

At Dream Image Signs, we don’t just create commercial vehicle graphics and fleet vehicle wraps…we build fleets that people remember. Let’s create a fleet that turns heads, starts conversations, and keeps your brand moving forward, one unforgettable kilometre at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a fleet wrap rollout take?
Every project is different, as the timeline depends on fleet size, vehicle types, installation scheduling, and production requirements. During your consultation, we’ll develop a rollout schedule that minimizes downtime while keeping your project moving smoothly.

Should all fleet vehicles have the same design?
Not necessarily, but they should absolutely look like they belong to the same company and have the same graphics or branding. Maintaining consistent colours, logos, fonts, and branding creates stronger recognition while allowing layouts to adapt to different vehicle sizes.

Are wraps or decals better for large fleets?
Both can be excellent depending on your creative vision and your equipment type. Full wraps provide maximum visibility, while decals offer a more economical option for larger fleets. Many businesses choose a combination depending on vehicle type and marketing goals.

Can wraps be installed in phases?
Absolutely! Many growing businesses tend to choose phase installations as new vehicles are added or budgets evolve. Because we carefully document every aspect of your branding, future vehicles will match seamlessly.

How long do fleet wraps last?
With quality materials and professional installation, premium fleet wraps can typically last between 5 and 7 years, depending on vehicle use, cleaning and maintenance, and environmental exposure.

How much does a fleet branding project cost?
Every fleet is unique. Costs depend on vehicle quantity, sizes, graphic coverage, and design complexity. We’ll build a customized graphics solution that aligns with both your branding goals and your budget.

Before the Wrap Hits the Machine | What Contractors Should Prepare Before Ordering Equipment Graphics in Calgary

What Contractors Should Prepare Before Ordering Equipment Graphics in Calgary

Your equipment works hard, just like you do. From sunrise concrete pours to late-night snow removal, your machines are out there getting dirty, making money, and keeping projects moving forward.

The question is: What are they saying about your business while they’re doing it?

A clean, professionally branded skid steer, excavator, generator, or service trailer doesn’t just look good, it communicates quality, professionalism, credibility, and pride in your work before a single conversation takes place.

That’s the power of high-quality Equipment Graphics in Calgary.

But before your equipment becomes a rolling, digging, lifting, earth-moving billboard for your company, there are a few important steps that can make the entire process smoother, faster, and more successful.

At Dream Image Signs, we’ve been helping contractors, manufacturers, fleet managers, and business owners bring their brands to life since 2005. Here’s what we recommend preparing before ordering equipment graphics.

Why Proper Preparation Matters Before Ordering Equipment Graphics

Killer graphics don’t start in the print shop. They start with proper planning, and the more information available upfront, the easier it becomes to create graphics that fit properly, install correctly, and withstand years of demanding work environments.

A little preparation helps:

  • Speed up the design process
  • Reduce installation delays
  • Improve graphic longevity
  • Create stronger branding consistency
  • Minimize downtime for your equipment

In other words? The better the preparation, the better the final result.

Your Equipment Is MORE Than Equipment

Contractors don’t buy equipment because it looks pretty (though it’s a bonus if it does). They buy equipment because it gets the job done right. But every piece of machinery parked on a job site also tells a story.

A faded, unmarked machine blends into the background, whereas, a professionally branded machine commands attention.

It tells customers: “We take our business seriously.”

It tells competitors: “We’re here to stay.”

And it tells your team: “We’re building something worth being proud of.”

What Important Information Contractors Should Collect First

Before reaching out for a quote, gather as much information as possible about your equipment.

Helpful details can include:

  • Equipment make, year and model
  • Quantity of machines
  • Existing graphics or decals
  • Equipment photographs
  • Desired branding locations
  • Project timeline

The more details you provide, the more accurately your graphics can be designed. And trust us, we love details.

Measuring Equipment Correctly

Not all equipment is created equal. A skid steer is very different from a generator. A concrete mixer presents different challenges than an oil tanker. That’s why accurate measurements are  important.

When preparing for graphics, make sure you consider:

  • Flat surfaces
  • Curved panels
  • Rivets, latches and seams
  • Access doors or hinges
  • Vents and/or moving components
  • Safety markings that are already in place

Proper measurements help determine material selection, graphic placement, and installation requirements.

At Dream Image Signs, we assess every project carefully because a great design means nothing if it doesn’t fit properly.

Artwork & Logo File Requirements

One of the biggest delays we most often see is low-quality artwork. A logo pulled from a website or screenshot might look fine on a phone screen, but when enlarged across a piece of heavy equipment, imperfections become glaringly obvious.

For best printing results for wraps and decals, make sure you provide:

  • Vector files: Adobe Illustrator (AI), Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), Portable Document Format (PDF), Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
  • High-resolution logos
  • Brand colour specifications
  • Font type and sizing information
  • Existing branding guidelines

Don’t have those files? Don’t panic! Our Dream Team can often help recreate or improve artwork so your graphics look sharp, professional, and ready to make an impact.

Preparing Equipement Surfaces for Decals or Wraps

Think of equipment graphics like paint. If the surface underneath isn’t properly prepared, the final result won’t last very long…if at all.

Before your decal or wrap installation:

  • Remove any and all excessive dirt, mud and grime
  • Clean off all the grease and oil buildup
  • Address rust or peeling paint
  • Repair damaged panels when possible
  • Ensure surfaces are clean and dry

Graphics need a clean, stable surface to achieve maximum adhesion. Trying to apply premium vinyl over dirt, grease, or corrosion is like building a house on a shaky foundation – it just won’t work.

Choosing the Right Materials Matters

This is where experience makes all the difference. Every piece of equipment faces different conditions.

Questions we ask include:

  • Is the equipment indoors or outdoors?
  • Will it be exposed to UV rays?
  • Is it exposed to chemicals?
  • Does it experience heavy abrasion?
  • Are surfaces flat, curved, or complex?

The answers determine which materials will perform best.

At Dream Image Signs, we carefully match vinyls, laminates, and adhesives to the specific application because graphics should work as hard as your equipment does.

Common Installation Challenges That Can Occure

Heavy equipment isn’t exactly known for smooth, simple, or untouched surfaces. We regularly work around:

  • Deep curves
  • Hinged panels
  • Hydraulic components
  • Access doors
  • Textured or rough surfaces
  • Old or existing decals
  • Safety labels that must remain visible

The goal isn’t simply getting graphics onto equipment, the goal is making them look fantastic while ensuring they remain functional, durable, and compliant. That’s where professional installation is the best step to take.

Installation Planning Tips To Keep In Mind

Time Installs Before the Busy Season

The best time to brand your equipment isn’t when you’re swamped with work. It’s before the rush begins.

Planning ahead allows graphics to be installed without disrupting operations during your busiest months.

Maintain Fleet Consistency

Consistency builds recognition. If your excavator looks one way, your skid steer another, and your service trailer something completely different, your brand loses impact.

That’s why we always document all measurements, colours, placements, and installation details so that every machine looks like part of the same team.

Minimize Downtime

Your equipment makes money when it’s working. Not sitting. We understand that.

Our team works very closely with contractors to coordinate schedules and keep downtime to a minimum.

Consider Indoor VS. Outdoor Conditions

Weather matters. Temperature matters. Surface conditions matter.

Installing graphics in controlled environments often delivers the best results and allows materials to perform exactly as intended.

Plan for Temporary Removal of Accessories

Some installations may require the temporary removal of:

  • Handles
  • Mirrors
  • Lights
  • Protective covers
  • External attachments

Don’t worry, at Dream Image Signs we always identify these requirements ahead of time so there are no surprises.

Think About Maintenance & Durability

Premium graphics are built to last, but proper care helps maximize lifespan. We recommend:

  • Regular maintenance and cleaning
  • Avoiding harsh cleaning chemicals
  • Promptly repairing damaged areas
  • Pressure washing with care
  • Periodic inspections

When paired with high-quality materials and UV-protective laminates, professional equipment graphics can continue looking brand new for years to come.

Why Contractors Trust Dream Image Signs Every Day

Truthfully? Because we’ve been obsessed with decals and wraps our entire lives!

Long before Dream Image Signs existed, we were putting graphics on bikes, motorcycles, walls, and anything else we could get our hands on. That passion eventually became a business, and today, we’ve spent more than 20 years helping Calgary contractors transform their equipment into powerful branding assets.

From generators and skid steers to concrete mixers and oil tankers, we know what it takes to create graphics that survive real-world conditions while helping businesses stand out.

Because your equipment deserves more than just a “sticker”. It deserves a professional image that works just as hard as it does.

Ready to Make Your Equipment Work Even Harder?

Your machines are already moving projects forward. Now it’s time to make sure they’re moving your brand forward, too.

At Dream Image Signs, we understand that more coverage does not automatically mean more effective advertising. A well-designed decal package can sometimes outperform a busy full wrap. Readability, contrast, message hierarchy, and professional installation are just as important as the amount of coverage. That’s why we create durable, professional Equipment Graphics in Calgary that help contractors and their businesses really stand out, build honest recognition, and leave a lasting impression on every job site.

Contact Dream Image Signs today and let’s completely transform your equipment into powerful brand ambassadors that work as hard as you do!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I properly prepare equipment for graphics installation?
Start by thoroughly cleaning the equipment, removing dirt, grease, mud, and debris. Any damaged paint or corrosion should be addressed before installation whenever possible.

Can graphics be installed on rough or dirty surfaces?
Generally, no. This is why we always recommend you clean all surfaces before wrap begins as this is an essential step to achieving strong adhesion and long-lasting results.

How long do equipment wraps last?
Depending on the materials used and the condition of the surface area of the vehicle or equipement, environmental exposure, and maintenance practices, equipment wraps can often last between 5 and 10 years or longer with proper care.

How long does installation take?
Installation timelines can vary based on the overall equipment size, quantity, surface complexity, and graphic coverage. Simple decal projects may take only a few hours, while larger wrap projects may require several days depending on the size and scale of the equipment.

How Wrapped Equipment Supports Company Marketing and Branding Year-Round

Wrapped Equipment Supports Company Marketing and Branding Year-Round

When people think about marketing, they often picture online ads or building signage. But one of the strongest, most reliable branding tools a company has is the equipment it already owns. Whether it’s a crane on a construction site, a custom-built centrifuge machine, or a mobile service trailer, wrapped equipment works around the clock—promoting the brand everywhere it goes, all year long.

Dream Image Signs uses 3M Preferred Installer techniques to ensure every installation is performed with precision, using high-quality vinyl materials from leading brands such as Avery, Oracal, Arlon, and 3M. This combination guarantees long-lasting results that hold up in the toughest conditions.

Wrapped Equipment Works as Free Marketing Everywhere It Goes

Equipment that displays clear branding instantly stands out. A logo on a crane, generator, dump truck, or skid steer becomes a constant reminder of who is doing the work on-site. As equipment travels between job sites, client locations, and roadways, it quietly increases visibility and strengthens brand recognition without any extra advertising cost.

This simple step reinforces professionalism, helps customers remember the company name, and builds trust as equipment shows up in more and more locations.

Branding Your Product / Equipment Shows Professionalism

Many businesses manufacture custom products or specialized equipment. Just like consumer electronics, these items look complete when they include:

  • Company branding
  • Model or serial numbers
  • Safety details
  • Contact information
  • Technical identification labels

Branded equipment communicates quality, pride, and consistency. When a product or machine carries a clean, well-designed label or wrap, it signals to clients and partners that the company stands behind what it builds. As these branded products enter new facilities or markets, the brand grows quietly with them.

Labels Help With Safety, Clear Instructions, and Better Workflow

Branding isn’t only about logos. Clear, durable labels support daily operations by providing:

  • Hazard warnings
  • Pinch-point alerts
  • Load limits
  • Instruction decals
  • Component identification
  • Compliance information

High-visibility decals reduce confusion, support safe operation, and streamline workflow—especially on busy or high-risk job sites.

Wrapped Equipment Work done by Dream Image Signs

Wrapped Equipment Helps Prevent Theft and Misplacement

Branding also discourages theft. A plain, unmarked generator or trailer disappears easily. But when an item is clearly marked:

  • It is harder to steal
  • It is easier to identify
  • It is more difficult to resell
  • Contractors on-site instantly recognize ownership

Branded equipment is simply less attractive to thieves, and easier to track if it ever goes missing.

Graphics Built to Last in Harsh Conditions

Outdoor equipment endures heavy use, weather, and UV exposure. That’s why material quality matters. Dream Image Signs uses:

  • Premium vinyl from Avery, Arlon, Oracal, and 3M
  • UV-protective overlaminate
  • Adhesives suited for long-term durability
  • Options for permanent or removable installations

Expanded UV Benefits

The UV overlaminate provides several key advantages:

  • Protects print and vinyl from UV degradation
  • Reduces drying, cracking, and brittleness over time
  • Guards against abrasions and surface scratches
  • Offers mild self-healing, allowing small marks or scuffs to disappear with heat or sunlight

This ensures graphics look newer for longer and withstand the harsh realities of Canadian weather and construction environments.

Graphics Don’t Always Need to Be Permanent — Magnet Options Available

Not all branding needs to be applied directly to equipment. For customers who require flexibility, magnetic graphics can be created for any metal surface.

Magnet graphics allow:

  • Easy removal when equipment changes sites
  • Quick replacement if branding needs to change
  • Temporary identification for shared or rotating equipment
  • No adhesive residue or long-term commitment

This is ideal for companies with equipment that must be re-labeled often, or for businesses that prefer interchangeable identification options.

Your Equipment Is a Branding Tool You Already Own

Wrapped and labeled equipment offers long-term advantages:

  • Higher professionalism
  • Stronger brand visibility
  • Reinforced company presence on every job site
  • Improved safety communication
  • Reduced theft
  • Durable, weather-resistant graphics
  • Year-round advertising without extra cost

When premium materials are combined with 3M Preferred Installer techniques, equipment becomes one of the most dependable and cost-effective marketing tools available.

Knowledge Is Free

At Dream Image Signs, the goal is to support your vision with honest guidance, expert solutions, and high-quality craftsmanship. Knowledge is free—and customers are always encouraged to reach out for ideas, options, and the best paths forward for their equipment branding.

How Long Does Vinyl Car Wrap Last? Tips to Keep Your Brand Looking Sharp

How Long Does Vinyl Car Wrap Last

If your vehicle is part of your branding strategy, keeping it looking sharp matters. Whether it’s a delivery van, company car, or full fleet, your vehicle wrap is a moving ad for your business. So, a common and important question we hear is: how long does vinyl car wrap last?

Let’s break it down—lifespan, wear signs, and what you can do to make your wrap go the distance.

At Dream Image Signs, we work with businesses across industries to design, install, and maintain vinyl wraps that turn heads and last. Whether you’re wrapping your first vehicle or refreshing a fleet, we’re here to make sure your brand stays bold and professional wherever the road takes you. So let’s break it down—from lifespan, wear signs, and what you can do to make your wrap go the distance.

Average Lifespan of a Vinyl Car Wrap

A high-quality vinyl car wrap, professionally installed and properly maintained, typically lasts 5 to 7 years. In some cases, wraps can look great even longer, especially if they’re applied to well-maintained vehicles and cared for regularly.

However, not all wraps wear the same.

What Affects How Long Vinyl Wrap Lasts?

Several key factors influence vinyl wrap durability:

  • Sun exposure – Constant UV rays can fade colours and dry out the vinyl faster.
  • Driving conditions – Gravel roads, harsh winters, and constant driving will age your wrap quicker.
  • Storage – Vehicles kept outdoors 24/7 tend to show signs of wear sooner than those stored in garages.
  • Installation quality – A poor install with bubbles or edges not sealed properly will fail faster.
  • Wrap material – Premium-grade vinyl typically lasts longer and resists cracking and fading better than lower-quality materials.
  • Colour and finish – Matte finishes may fade faster than gloss; darker colours tend to absorb more heat.
  • Horizontal Installed Film– Vinyls that are installed horizontally facing upwards are exposed to a lot more UV sun exposure than vertical installed panels.

Hot and Cold

Temperature shifts between day and night, especially over seasons, cause vinyl to expand and contract. As the vinyl continues to absorb UV rays, it dries out and loses flexibility. Low-quality vinyls have very little flexibility to begin with, making them prone to cracking under these conditions. This is often seen on RVs, where wraps can start cracking after just a few years due to poor material quality. At our shop, we use high-quality vinyls with built-in flexibility and a UV-protective overlaminate designed to handle expansion and contraction.

Based on what we’ve seen, our materials last up to five times longer than some of the cheaper vinyls we’re often called in to replace.

Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Wrap

Even with the best care, vinyl wraps eventually show signs of wear. If you start noticing fading or discoloration, cracks or splits in the vinyl, or sections lifting around edges and corners, it may be time for a replacement.

Persistent peeling or bubbling—especially when it doesn’t smooth out—can signal that the wrap’s adhesive is failing. Cracking vinyl is another clear sign of wear. Once your wrap starts to crack, removal becomes much more difficult and time-consuming. Instead of peeling off in large sections, cracked vinyl tends to break apart into small, stubborn pieces. The longer it’s left to dry out and deteriorate, the more challenging and lengthy the removal process will be.

In some cases, your branding may also be outdated, featuring old logos, messaging, or contact details that no longer reflect your business accurately. If your wrap isn’t presenting your brand in the best light, replacing it is a smart way to stay professional and visible on the road.

Maintenance Tips to Extend Your Wrap’s Lifespan

To keep your wrap looking clean and vibrant for years:

  • Wash regularly by hand with mild soap and water
  • Avoid automatic car washes and pressure washers
  • Dry your vehicle gently to avoid lifting edges
  • Park in the shade or use a cover to limit UV exposure
  • Handle minor damage early before it spreads
  • Using car wax will help keep vinyl supple and further protects from UV

If you must use a pressure washer:

  • Keep the nozzle 3–4 feet away from the vinyl.
  • Avoid spraying directly at edges or seams to prevent peeling.

With consistent care, you can easily get the most out of your investment—and keep your vehicle turning heads for all the right reasons.

Your vehicle wrap is more than just a design—it’s a tool for visibility, awareness, and connection. At Dream Image Signs, we help businesses like yours make the most of every mile with vinyl wraps that are built to last and designed to impress.

Repair or Replace? What to Do When Your Vehicle’s Vinyl Wrap Gets Damaged

Wrap Damage Can Be Repaired

If your vinyl vehicle wrap is scratched, peeling, or bubbling, don’t panic. Damaged vinyl wraps can often be repaired, depending on the type and extent of the issue. As a business that relies on vinyl vehicle wrapping to maintain a strong, visible brand presence, it’s important to know your options.

Let’s break down what’s fixable, what’s not, and how to keep your wrap looking sharp.

At Dream Image Signs, we understand how important your visual identity is—especially when your brand is rolling through town. Whether you need a quick fix or a full refresh, our team is here to help you stay bold and visible on the road!

What Kinds of Wrap Damage Can Be Repaired?

Not all damage means starting from scratch. Here are a few issues that can often be repaired:

  • Minor scratches or scuffs – These can sometimes be polished or touched up without replacing any vinyl.
  • Small peeling areas – If caught early, we can reapply adhesive or replace a single panel.
  • Localized bubbling – Trapped air or moisture can often be smoothed out with heat and pressure. In some cases, small bubbles can be pin-pricked to release the air underneath. It’s also normal to see minor bubbling shortly after a wrap is completed, depending on the type of vinyl used. These bubbles often dissipate on their own over the next few days as the vinyl settles and breathes.

If the damage is confined to one section, it’s usually possible to replace that panel instead of rewrapping the entire vehicle.

When Does Vinyl Vehicle Wrapping Need Full Replacement?

Some situations do call for a full rewrap:

  • Faded or cracked vinyl due to sun exposure or age
  • Large-scale damage like dents that affect multiple panels
  • Poor installation from a non-professional job
  • Branding changes that require a new look or updated design

If your vinyl vehicle wrap is more than five years old, it might also be time for a refresh to keep things looking clean and consistent.

How to Prevent Future Wrap Damage

Keeping your vinyl vehicle wrap in great shape doesn’t take much, but the proper care makes a big difference. Wash your vehicle by hand using mild soap, and skip the pressure washers and drive-through car washes that can cause peeling or lift the edges.

Whenever possible, try to park in the shade. It helps protect your wrap from sun damage, keeping the colours sharp and the vinyl intact. If you spot any damage, even something small like a lifted corner or bubble, don’t wait—early fixes are quicker, cleaner, and cost less.

Avoid harsh cleaners or anything abrasive. A gentle approach will keep your wrap looking professional and polished. With a bit of routine care, your wrap can last 5 to 7 years, turning heads and promoting your brand every time you’re on the move.

DIY vs. Professional Repairs

While it might be tempting to patch a wrap yourself, DIY repairs can cause more harm than good. Matching vinyl colour, texture, and finish takes expertise. A poorly aligned patch or visible seam can make your vehicle look unprofessional—hurting your brand instead of helping it.

Let the pros handle it.

At Dream Image Signs, we use precision tools, colour-matching techniques, and high-quality vinyl to make repairs seamless and long-lasting.

Keep Your Dream Brand Rolling

Your vehicle wrap is more than just a design—it’s your mobile billboard. Keeping it in top shape shows your customers that you care about every detail.
